Along the coast of Gozo one can admire six coastal towers; Marsalforn, Isopu, Garzes, Mgarr ix-Xini, Xlendi and Dwejra. Built by the Knights of Malta during the 17th century, these watch towers formed a formidable defense system against invaders by sea.
All towers were strategically positioned, so that as one tower spotted a suspicious approach, neighboring towers could be easily altered by means of a fire signal.
Nowadays most of these towers have been restored to their former glory to welcome visitors keen to explore the Hospitallers legacy on the island.
